ROUTE 62 is the alternative route for the N2 highway from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth.

The entire ROUTE 62 is tarred and generally in a good condition. Some of the access routes to nearby attractions, farms and places of interest may not be tarred. These roads are kept in good repair and can be negotiated with a normal sedan type vehicle. The only exceptions are the roads into the Gamkaskloof (the Hell) and through the Baviaanskloof Wildernes area. A more rugged vehicle is recommended. We suggest that you enquire locally before using these roads. The absolute beauty of these areas do warrant the trouble and inconvenience of the road condition.

One can travel along the entire route in just one day. We would however strongly recommend a more leisurely aproach and urge you to explore the many and diverse attractions along the route as well as the other (nearby) locations. Each in its own right worth a visit.
