Even though ROUTE 62 offers much more than you could have imagined - there is more. Just off ROUTE 62, and well worth the trouble, are a number of locations that should be on any "must see" list. For your convenience we list some of them:

CERES / TULBAGH
Just past the Baineskloof Pass, between Wellington and Worcester, follow the road over the Mitchells Pass to the sunny town of CERES, named after the Roman Goddess of fruitfulness, in one of the major decideous fruit producing areas. Apart from the breathtaking beauty on scenic routes in the area, it offers biking trails, mountain bike routes, 4x4 routes, horse riding, fishing, fruit farm tours nature and game reserves.
Back over Mitcells Pass, follow the road to Tulbagh, restored to its historical glory after an earthquake in 1969. It now boasts 32 national monuments in one street. Also known for quality wines and do not forget to visit the museum.

This is truly a tiny village lost in time. Whitewashed cottages and old stone irrigation channels is home to artists, potters, craftsmen and healers.
BONNIEVALE
Known for quality produce - wine, fruit, cheese - and various water activities on the Breede River

From Montagu, follow this alternative scenic route via Swellendam and the Tradouwspass to Barrydale. Enjoy SWELLENDAM with its historic buildings, art and craft, wildlife and outdoor adventure. Also stop in SUURBRAAK, a historic former mission village situated in a rural mountain setting.

SEWEWEEKSPOORT
About 20 km past Ladismith, turn towards Laingsburg and experience how the road shares a narow gorge with a river. Described by some as one of the most amazing natural wonders in the country. You need to retrace your steps - about 15 km - back to ROUTE 62.

Experience the pinnacle of the roadbuilding mastercraft of Thomas Baine over the SWARTBERG PASS (a national monument) into PRINCE ALBERT a picturesque town and gateway to the Great Karoo. From the top of the Swartberg, venture into GAMKASKLOOF (or more commonly known as 'The Hell'). Scenic drives, hiking trails, birding, wildlife, art and craft, tannery, 4x4 routes

MEIRINGSPOORT
Just outside the tiny village of De Rust, see the marvel of Meiringspoort. A more civilised
(and maybe a little less spectacular) version of the Seweweekspoort. You need to retrace
your steps back to ROUTE 62.
BAVIAANSKLOOF
It is not possible to desribe this Widerness area in one sentance. For this section of the road you need a more sturdy vehicle - also enquire in Uniondale about the condition of the road. In wet season you may not be able to pass. Hiking trails, wildlife, birding

GARDEN ROUTE
The name does say it all. A garden of green forests, the Indian ocean, and the N2 highway. One of the most scenic routes along the south coast of Africa. Along this route you can expect hiking, fishing, action activities, trails along the coast, in natural forrests, on suspended paths along the top of the forrest, canoe trails and many more.
